What you need to drive with Muje in Lagos

The papers, the vehicle rules, the inspection and what happens after you apply — written out plainly, so nothing surprises you on the day.

Muje is not taking trips yet. We are approving drivers now so that on the day we switch on, there are cars on the road and you are one of them. Here is exactly what that involves, so nothing surprises you.

What you need to apply

The form on the application page asks for four things: your name, a phone number we can reach you on, your email, and the city you drive in. That is all. It takes a couple of minutes and costs nothing.

We deliberately do not ask for your licence number, your NIN or any document upload on the website. A public web form is the wrong place for government identity data. A person reads your application first. Then we check those documents with you directly, in the driver app — where there is an account to attach them to, and a record of who opened them.

What you need before you drive

Once your application is approved, we verify the following. Have them ready and the process is quick:

  • A valid Nigerian driver’s licence.
  • Your National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Vehicle papers — proof of ownership or lawful use, a valid roadworthiness certificate, and insurance.
  • Any certification Lagos State requires of commercial drivers at the time you join. These requirements change, so we confirm the current list with you rather than publishing one here that may be out of date.

The car

Muje accepts vehicles from 2009 model year and newer. That is deliberately wider than most — we check condition, not age alone. A well-kept 2011 Corolla is a better car for this work than a neglected 2018 anything.

Every car is inspected when you join, and once a year after. That is not a formality. It is why a rider can get into a Muje car and expect it to be sound. It is also how we keep the fleet small and the standard high.

What happens after you apply

  • A person reads it. Every application is reviewed by someone at Muje, not scored by a bot. We reply either way.
  • We call or email you to arrange the roadworthiness check and verify your documents.
  • You pick a plan — weekly or monthly, one flat fee, VAT included.
  • Approved before launch day means your first month is free. No fee at all on whichever plan you choose.

How you get paid

Riders pay you directly, in cash or by bank transfer, at the fixed fare shown before they book. Muje never touches the fare — there is no payout to wait for and nothing to reconcile. What you collect is already yours.

The only money that moves between you and Muje is the flat plan fee, in one direction. If you want the arithmetic of that against a commission, we worked it through here.

Straight answers to the awkward questions

When does Muje launch? One city first, guided by where riders and drivers sign up. Approved drivers hear the date before anyone else.

Is there work on day one? We cannot promise a trip volume, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that approving drivers before launch is the whole point: a rider who opens the app to no cars does not come back.

What if I already drive for someone else? That is fine. Nothing about applying to Muje requires you to stop.

Questions we have not answered

Email hello@muje.ng. A person reads that too, and if the answer belongs in this guide we will add it.
